Around Town
 
Town Council (11-19-21 mtg) Approved Resolution in Support of Grant Application to DNREC (Natural Resources & Environmental Control)
  • Two-fold Purpose:
  • Help Offset the Cost of Developing a Plan to Restore and Preserve Wetlands in a 15-acre Town-Owned Property
  • Help Offset the Cost of a Study of the Feasibility of Creating a Nature-Based Pedestrian Pathway Across the Property

  • BBLA will contine to track the DNREC application
  • FYI - 15 acre property goes approximately from Hudson Ave to Central Ave on the West side of Town
 
Update on Comcast:
 
  • Continuing work in Bethany West - moving on to Half Moon Dr, Collins St, & Fenwood Circle
  • Residential service to be offered after undergrounding of fiber optic cable is completed throughout entire Town
  • Expected completion date - late Spring 2022

Town Universal Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Up & Running
 
  • Each station can charge 2 vehicles - enough for 8 vechicles total
  • Inital $2 fee and then $0.20/minute

  • Flags for Heroes - annual Memorial Weekend recognition of local heroes in front of Lord Baltimore Elementary School 
  • Friends of the South Coastal Library - Beach and Bay Cottage Tour - FOSCL's major source of fundraising
  • Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition - supporting local mentors who follow breast cancer patients on their journey from diagnosis through treatment and beyond
  • South Coastal Village Volunteers - trained volunteers assist older adults with various tasks enabling them to stay in their homes
  • Southern Delaware Education Foundation - scholarships to qualified unemployed or underemployed local residents approved for schooling - aim is to prevent poverty through education
  • Southeast Sussex Ministerium - 12 local churches pool their resources in serving the needs of the community, especially those most affected by the pandemic
