Chip Smith, Board Member

Chip, a native Chicagoan, purchased a home in Bethany Beach with his wife Meg in 2009. Chip retired in late 2017, after serving over 40 years in the Federal Government – 20 years for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and 20 years for the Pentagon Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army, overseeing the Corps nationwide. He established the Tribal Nations Program and worked in the areas of environmental restoration and protection, wetlands regulations, historic preservation, and flood risk management project planning.

Chip has a BS and MS degrees in archaeology and history. He also studied ecology at the graduate level and served 3 years in the United States Marine Corps from 1970-73. He has been a member of the BBLA Board since 2019, focusing on flooding/stormwater, wetland, and general environmental matters. He has written articles for the BBLA Website Environmental Corner and Newsletter. Chip also serves on the Town’s Stormwater and Flooding Committee.
